From December 1, 2025: Passengers Can Check in Without Going to the Counter
Have you ever felt “fed up” with long queues at airport check-in counters, especially during peak travel seasons? Good news: starting December 1, 2025, passengers traveling without checked baggage can complete check-in procedures entirely without visiting a counter—just a few taps on your phone or a few steps at a self-service kiosk.
Even more remarkable: at some major airports, all you will need is… your face to pass through security and board the plane. No papers, no long lines—just Face ID Boarding technology.
Let’s explore how it works in detail!
🚀 1. Online Check-in via VNeID Application
This is the biggest highlight of the new change. VNeID—Vietnam’s national electronic identification app—not only verifies your identity, but now also becomes the “key” for passengers flying with Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, or Vietjet Air.
Steps:
👉 At the airport, you can head straight to the biometric security lane and boarding gate. Just scan your face—it’s done. No need for a citizen ID card, no need for a passport.
💡 Note: Always bring your ID/passport as a backup in case of technical issues.
📱 2. Check-in via the Airline’s Website/App
This method is already familiar to many passengers, but it now includes an upgraded eKYC verification feature to align with the new system.
Basic steps:
📌 If you want to skip documents, you can choose eKYC verification directly in the airline’s app (similar to the VNeID process). In that case, you will also use Face ID Boarding at security and boarding gates.
🏙️ 3. Check-in at Airport Self-service Kiosks
Self-service kiosks are now installed at major airports across Vietnam, located in departure halls. This is a good option if you’re not comfortable using apps or if you need to print baggage tags.
Steps:
⏰ Check-in times via kiosk:
❌ Not available for: passengers with infants under 2 years old, groups of more than 4, or passengers needing special assistance.
📍 4. Biometric Technology at Airports
Facial recognition technology is currently implemented at three major international airports in Vietnam:
Biometric check-in and boarding areas are located at security checkpoints and boarding gates, helping passengers minimize waiting time.
⚠️ Important Notes
From December 2025, air travel in Vietnam will step into a new era: “flying with your face.” No more long queues at check-in counters, no more repeated ID checks—everything is now handled through one app or a simple self-service kiosk.
Biometric technology not only saves time but also enhances passenger experience, bringing Vietnam’s aviation industry closer to global standards.
👉 With this change, your autumn or year-end holiday flights will be smoother, faster, and more modern than ever before.
